A huge welcome to Melanie Nunn who has recently joined our office in Perth. Melanie has a strong background in the regulatory environment which complements her experience with contaminated sites. We hope you are settling in nicely to your new role as technical auditor assistant.
EPA Victoria have been working with DELWP on a searchable contaminated land database called Victoria Unearthed. This new online tool, launched on Thursday 14th of March, will help Victorians identify and investigate the quality of land and groundwater on their properties. Victoria Unearthed includes data about land and groundwater that’s been brought together in the one place for the first time, delivering new levels of transparency for information relating to past land use. This a great tool for our property development clients prior to purchasing properties. If your property has an Environmental Audit Overlay (EAO), one of our auditors would be pleased to chat about this planning restriction and how to tackle it.
Welcome to the AEA team, Kate Sims. Kate has recently joined us (in our Melbourne office) as an experienced environmental scientist with a strong background in the landfill sector. She will support our auditors and complement our strong, in-house landfill team. Kate has already impressed us and we all look forward to introducing you to our clients and working together.
We would like to congratulate Phil and Jacqui on their recent marriage. Wishing you all the happiness and best wishes for your married life together.
We are hosting an internal photo competition for a bit of fun and we just had to share this one with you all. “Sampling” by Alyson
Earlier this month we hosted our annual, infamous Super Bowl party. Whilst the game was a little slower paced compared to other years, it was still a great turnout with plenty of clients, colleagues and friends coming along for a catch up, to network and socialise. Thanks for taking the time to drop by!
Consultants generally provide the assessment, remediation and other environmental services. The auditor verifies the consultants work to ensure regulations have been met. Auditors review results from soil sampling and analysis, groundwater monitoring events, gases and vapours, remediation action plans, site environmental management plans, planning and development plans, and any other relevant documents at the request of the auditor to assist in the audit outcome. Where an environmental audit is to take place on a project/site the auditor is to be independent from the consultant doing the work. That is, no conflict of interest. The consultant and auditor respectively work together to deliver the best possible outcome for the client, their project, and human health and the environment.
EPA Victoria will be requiring an EPA-appointed auditor to calculate landfill financial assurance estimates, as opposed to just a ‘suitably qualified person’. This new requirement, and the assessment form that goes with it, will enable a more streamlined and time-efficient approval process that minimises back and forth between duty holders and EPA. Contact us to discuss your landfill projects/operations or to speak with one of our auditors.
DELWP and EPA Victoria have recently (19 Oct) released a new State Environment Protection Policy (Waters). The SEPP (Waters) now formally replaces SEPP (Groundwaters of Victoria) and SEPP (Waters of Victoria) (including all schedules). A copy of the most recent SEPP (Waters) is available here. This particularly affects consultants and should be implemented immediately.
The Certified Environmental Practitioners Scheme (CEnvP), Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) and Site Contamination Practitioners Australia (SCPA) have implemented an amended certification scheme for site contamination specialists. This certification recognises environmental professionals at a national standard who can meet the requisite competency criteria of experience, training, conduct and ethics. Certification provides a greater level of assurance to the community, employers, clients and professional associates of the credentials and peer recognition of an environmental professional. All of our team are working towards obtaining certification, with our auditors already having succeeded.
